References on Resume

Resume is the document that promotes you in the job market. It is necessary for every job you apply. Before going through your application, employer will not know who you are and what are your skills and qualifications. Resume will tell the employer about your existing skills and specialized qualities. Going through these details, they can decide whether you are suitable for the job or not. Many times they will demand references in the resume. These references are the names of people those can provide evidence regarding your efficiency and capabilities. You should also know about the different resume formats and choose the best one for yourself. In this clause, we discuss the importance of references in resume and how it can help you in getting closer to your dream job.
Resume References:
Reference is someone who can professionally judge your work and experience in the field. If you have at least one or two persons as a reference in your CV, it will definitely help you and bring you closer to your dream job. These are generally present in the last section of the CV, hence viewed at the end. When listing the references, keep in mind to inform them before you write their names in your CV. Include the references those will speak positive things about you.
Following are some references that you can include in your CV –
  • Your teachers or professors
  • Customers
  • Immediate Seniors or Managers
  • Other Industrial Contacts
This section is optional. You can eliminate this section and list the references on a separate sheet of paper. You can carry this paper along with you at the time of interview and present it to the employer when demanded.
References are needed for the positions where your character or behavior needs to be verified. The person you include as a reference should be able to answer the following things:
·        Your professional behavior and personal character
·        Your academics
·        Your work
·        Attitude
·        Strengths and weaknesses
·        Management and leadership skills
Is it good to list references in your CV?
You may not know what the employer is expecting from the candidate. If someone who has worked with you previously talks positive things regarding your capabilities, it will certainly make an impact on the potential employer.
If you do not list the references, it will not harm the quality of your resume, but listing them will obviously prove as additional benefit. Hence, it is always good to list at least two references. If possible, categorize them in to business and personal references. You can check for resume examples provided to know more about the sample references .
Where to include the Reference in the Resume?
This section is generally the last part in your CV. It is present after the personal details of the applicant. At most, you can include three names and at least one.
Write the name of the person, company name, his/her designation, contact number and e-mail ID. These details can help your potential employer to contact the person to know more details about your professional or personal background.
Contact the references before you include their name in your references list. This section can equally contribute in getting you selected for the job in special cases.
